KLM Caramel Waffles

21 Oct

Hallo! Hi, everyone!

It’s starting to be a tradition that when anybody goes travelling they bring sweets. It’s a good tradition in my opinion. The boxes when empty serve as decoration, while the cookies just fly away so fast that you really have to try your best to have a piece and is such a good present!

So following this path, is my  mom who recently went on a trip and when she got back flying in KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) she bought on the plane a metal box of caramel waffles.

The cookies were gone, before I had the idea to take the pictures so instead I searched the KLM shop and found them. I do not own this photo and the rest is all taken by me.

So, my only experience with caramel waffles is by Starbucks and those are really good. You have the soft part on the exterior and the delicious golden and sticky filling on the inside. This one’s were very similar but they had cinnamon as a topping, that gave a little edge to it. Very yummy!!

They came inside of a plastic “bag”, all very compact and well-organized.

There is no special occasion to eat them. They are simply that treat that you get, when you go to the kitchen to get something else and you end up eating this instead. 😉

So if you ever fly with KLM and you just recalled that you haven’t bought anything for that person. Just call the shopping cart! You won’t be disappointed!

Hope you enjoyed the post and nice flights!

Paris Exposition Universelle 1900 Cookies

14 Oct

Bonjour!

Last week my cousin got back from her trip trough France and brough me as a present a box full of cookies.

So I though why not do the same thing as I did to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Cookies and show you how they came and how they were.

First of all, unfortunately I don’t have  a recipe to this cookies, what I can say is that they are rather similar to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Cookies in which post you can find my recipe version. There is also the company site, where all sweets look delicious, but for what I could see they don’t sell outside France, unless you can find a franchise of the store. Really sad about it 😦

So, let’s start talking about theses yummy, delicious cookies. They have a crunchy texture and a shine to them in the exterior, that i will guess as a beaten egg brushed on the top before going to the oven and are finished with these classic but slightly rustic cuts. Of course, I just find this even more likeable, instead of the commercial ones, that you can see clearly that they were made just with a machine (nothing wrong with that, just prefer like this).

They came in a metal box, inside a plastic bag, and inside of it you would find several plastic bags with sets of 2 cookies in each one of them. All very nice put together and well packed. It has a beautiful drawing in the exterior of the box, representing the 1900 Universal Paris Exposition, with the Eiffel Tower, people dressed according to that time fashion and a view over Paris itself, with the river. Quite stunning, if I may say so. Then at the sides you have images of  several known monuments.

My advice is if you ever go to France in holidays/business/whatever and you want to bring something for someone special or if you just want a treat for yourself don’t miss on going to one of these amazing little stores and buy a box. Also since it’s metal and it has those gorgeous drawings, keep it has a memory or as decoration.

Thanks to France for making this amazing culinary delight and to my cousin for bringing it to me. 🙂

And feel free to write any questions you might have in the comment box below.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Cookies

4 Sep

So what better way to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and my first post about recipes than with some gorgeous yummy cookies?

And these do look gorgeous and yummy!  I received them as a gift from a friend, wich I thank very much.

I do know that this wasn’t made by me, but still I do have a very close recipe with some of my personal twists that for me just enhance the flavours and make it feel a little more fresh.

For those who do not know, this is a shortbread cookie. Its predominant flavor is butter and falls apart easily in large crumbs. It is a very popular recipe and is great for outdoor parties, picnics (in smaller portions than the photo, so everyone can have a piece) and of course  is the perfect sweet to have in a Sunday afternoon with a cup of hot tea while the rain is pouring outside against the windows ( in the Winter) or with a glass of fresh orange juice (in the Spring).

First of all the cookies came in a metallic box, with the side profile of Queen Elizabeth II and some really nice drawings around. After taking the tapes that kept the cover from opening, we get to the inside, where we have the plastic casing and after taking that off we can start forgetting about our weight. So as you can see the food is well conserved and is a very good gift to a friend! 🙂 Also I didn’t say yet, but I think it’s understated that they taste amazing!

So this my recipe and like I said it has some of my own changes and improvements to it:

P.S.: I normally do round little ones (the classic)  or in the shape of ginger bread mans. It really ends up to be                           about your personal choice and your creativity. The sky here is really the limit.

Ingredients:

120 gr of butter

100 gr of sugar

1 egg

350 gr of plain flour

1 teaspoon of baking powder

lemon zest (a lot of it, I would say probably about the zest of 3 medium lemons. But in the end it really is about taste and how much do you want. You can also put a little of lemon juice if you really like the flavour, but you should be careful with the acidity. Like I said is a twist to the classic version that actually works.)

Preparation:

1. Beat the butter and the sugar together until is smooth. I normally heat up the butter in the microwave (about 10 seconds) so it will be easier to beat.

2. Add the egg and keep beating till it’s all combined.

3. After that mix in the lemon zest.

4. Once that is done, stir in the flour till you get a smooth dough.

5.  Turn on to a clean surface and gently roll out until the paste is 1cm thick. Cut into whatever shapes that you like.

6. Put them in a baking tray, previous covered with a vegetable parchment (butter paper) or simple clean paper in the oven at 180ºC.

7. Let them stay there for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden-brown. Set aside to cool and you can finish with sugar on top.

Hope that you have fun trying and let me know how they were, also if you have any questions, just ask! 🙂

Lots of love,
